Amplifying Voices. Covering Crises. Reporting with Soul.
Karys Belger is an Emmy-nominated reporter based in Houston, Texas, currently reporting for FOX26 News. Previously at Atlanta’s 11Alive, she worked as a multimedia journalist—shooting, writing, and editing her own stories—while covering breaking news and carving out space to amplify voices that too often go unheard. Her reporting spanned high-stakes moments such as the passing of President Jimmy Carter and the 2024 Apalachee High School shooting, as well as deeply human coverage of severe storms, major trials, and community resilience. She also collaborated on the station’s digital-first initiatives, landing notable exclusives including an interview with Georgia-born K-pop star Eric Nam.
Following the October 7 Hamas attack, Karys conducted in-depth interviews with both Israel’s Consul General to the Southeast and Georgia’s first Palestinian lawmaker, underscoring her commitment to nuance, balance, and context-driven reporting.
When the world slowed down during the pandemic, Karys sped things up—teaching herself Korean to better serve Atlanta’s “Seoul of the South” community. Now proficient in speaking and fluent in reading, she regularly incorporates the language into her reporting, continuing to bridge communities through thoughtful, culturally informed journalism.
Before Atlanta, she worked mornings in Buffalo, New York, covering everything from the investigations into Andrew Cuomo to the preservation of Black American Sign Language, while shaping the station’s reporting on COVID-19’s disproportionate toll on Black communities. She cut her teeth in Fort Myers, Florida, reporting on Hurricane Irma’s aftermath and how sex traffickers were exploiting the internet. Her work has also appeared in the Baltimore Sun, Sojourners Magazine, and U.S. News & World Report.
A proud DMV native, Karys is a graduate of Spelman College and Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, with a stop at Queen Mary University of London to study literature and theater.
She also lives with Sickle Cell Disease and uses her platform to bring visibility to the challenges and triumphs of fellow warriors—proof that storytelling isn’t just her profession, it’s her purpose.
She is represented by Chelsea Sells of 3 Arts Entertainment.
